The Gus Macker 3:3 Basketball Tournament that was planned to take place June 24-26 in downtown Sioux City and was to benefit Camp High Hopes and the Susan G Komen Foundation has been cancelled due to the flooding in the surrounding community. The event has not been rescheduled.

Minerva’s Restaurant & Bar on Hamilton Blvd. in Sioux City will be donating 10% of its sales to the non-profit organization from meals and beverages served at its Hamilton Boulevard location on Thursday, May 19th during the hours of 4:00pm until 10:00pm. The event is open to the public and reservations are suggested for parties of five or more.
Minerva’s management selected Camp High Hopes as one of its 2011 recipients of it Culinary Delights, Charitable Nights fundraising events. A special camp-themed menu will be featured, including a Campfire Sampler and Old Fashioned S’mores. Members of the Camp High Hopes Board of Directors will be on hand at the special event on Thursday, May 19th to distribute information about the new year-round camp that is being designed and built exclusively for people with special needs.
Ryan and his little sister Karlee
Ryan Hughes, the brother of future camper, Karlee of Dakota Dunes, SD raised $705- for the camp this May 10th by collecting donations in lieu of birthday gifts for himself. What a great way to help his little sister fulfill her dream of one day attending the camp and an awesome way to help Camp High Hopes meet its goal of raising the money needed to build phase one of the camp. Special thanks to Ryan and all his friends and family members for donating to Camp High Hopes in honor of Ryan’s 11th birthday. Happy Birthday Ryan!
If you would like to collect donations for Camp High Hopes in lieu of your birthday gifts, it’s easy. Prior to your birthday, just ask your friends and family to write a check to Camp High Hopes instead of giving you a birthday gift. After you collect the checks, contact the camp and we will make arrangements to pick up what you have collected. Fun & Free Sioux City Treasure Hunt to Support Camp High Hopes

Hy-Vee Donation Canisters and Chesterman Company Work Together to Raise over $10,000 for Camp High Hopes Construction Project
The donation canisters located at the Hy-Vee Stores throughout the month of March raised $5,057.31. Over 80 Camp High Hopes donation canisters were on display at the checkout counters during the entire month of March at Hy-Vee Stores in Sioux City, South Sioux City, and LeMars. Throughout the month of March, Camp High Hopes volunteers and future campers asked Hy-Vee customers to give donations to the non-profit organization to help construct Phase 1 of the planned year-round recreational facility for people with special needs. As an added bonus, the donations deposited into the donation canisters by Hy-Vee customers were matched dollar for dollar by Chesterman Company. Officials from Hy-Vee and Chesterman Company presented Camp High Hopes with checks totaling $10,114.62 this week. Gordon Drive Hy-Vee Store Director Jeff Bortell said, “The generosity was amazing!”

The donations will go towards Phase 1 construction of the year-round special needs camp. Chesterman Company matched the funds raised in the donation canisters, dollar for dollar. Cy Chesterman said, “We were happy to match the community’s generosity for Camp High Hopes, an organization that is very near and dear to our hearts. Every dollar that was raised will help to build this camp that is so very needed by the thousands of children and adults living with special needs in and around Siouxland.”
Camp High Hopes is making the final push to raise the remaining funds needed to start Phase 1 construction this Spring. Construction of Phase 1 will begin once fundraising goals are met, which includes development of the 90 acres just off Correctionville Road in Sioux City, a lodge and a cabin. Camp sessions are scheduled to start shortly after the construction of Phase 1 is complete and will include week-long, weekend, and day camping programs for children and adults with special needs.
Camp High Hopes is a year-round recreational facility exclusively designed and operated for people with special needs. The camp is a not-for-profit organization.
